Prepare to Prepare

As it is still winter, it is not always easy to get out there and start digging in the garden. Where possible, set yourself up for a smooth transition into spring. On warm days, clean up any left over leaves from last year. Take a moment to clean out and reorganize the tool shed, or even take the time to sharpen your season-worn tools. On cold days, order your seeds, look up gardening articles and learn about best practices for what it is you’d like to do or what you’d like to learn to do. Pick up books about those topics, or even just peruse the cornucopia or beautiful gardening pictures online. The primary way to prepare for the gardening season, in my opinion, is to get excited and inspired about the joys of gardening. Oh, and make sure to stretch when you can. Goodness knows that all of us gardeners could tend to our own lowers backs and aching muscles before the work begins.

Rest and Enjoy

And as always, remember that winter is one of the most beautiful parts about gardening. It is our chance to do all of these beautiful things: to rest, to read, to research, to reinvigorate our love of gardening. So make sure not to miss out on the joys of winter while getting excited for the gardening season.

As always, thank you for reading, and happy gardening.
